Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré is unequivocal; spies and traitors face the death penalty in the land of honest people
Captain Ibrahim Traoré has never engaged in empty political doublespeak, and on this issue he was absolutely clear. In a statement that leaves no room for interpretation, the President of Faso has set out the fate reserved for anyone caught spying for or betraying Burkina Faso on behalf of foreign powers: the death penalty.
The message targets two precisely identified categories. First, imperialist spies, whether they operate openly or hide behind the cover of a third country.
Diplomatic subtlety will change nothing about their fate: once unmasked, the supreme sanction will apply, without exception and without negotiation.
Second, domestic reactionaries those Burkinabè who, from their own soil, choose to serve the interests of those seeking to destabilize their country. If caught in the act of treason, they will receive no mercy.
These statements come in a context in which Burkina Faso is simultaneously waging a military war against terrorism and an invisible war against foreign interference and destabilization networks seeking to sabotage the Popular Progressive Revolution from within.
For President Ibrahim Traoré, national sovereignty is not an abstract concept: it is a reality he is prepared to defend with every means at the state’s disposal, including the most radical.
A country at war that publicly announces its red lines sends a signal that its adversaries, visible or invisible, would do well to take seriously.
