Sudanese Founding Alliance condemns drone attack on Al-Mazroub and calls for an international investigation
The Sudanese Founding Alliance (Tasis) has strongly condemned the drone attack that targeted the town of Al-Mazroub, in North Kordofan State, on Friday morning. According to initial reports, the attack left nine people dead and about 24 wounded, and the toll is likely to rise. The Alliance described the attack as a grave violation of international humanitarian law.
In a statement, the Alliance said the bombardment targeted residential neighborhoods and densely populated civilian areas, and it held the army and groups affiliated with it directly responsible for the operation.
The Alliance stated that the attack amounted to systematic targeting of civilians and innocent people and a flagrant violation of international agreements requiring the protection of civilians from the ravages of armed conflict and the safeguarding of their homes and vital infrastructure.
Ta’sis called for the urgent opening of an international investigation. In light of the deteriorating humanitarian situation following the bombardment, the coalition issued an urgent appeal to the international community, United Nations agencies, and human rights organizations, demanding an independent investigation conducted by a transparent international commission of inquiry.
The commission would be tasked with examining the circumstances of the airstrike and determining legal responsibility so that the perpetrators do not remain unpunished.
The coalition also called for immediate medical intervention to provide medical and humanitarian care to the wounded and to assess the number of people affected so that they can receive life-saving aid.
The official spokesperson of the Sudanese Founding Alliance, Professor Ahmed Tagad Lissan, stressed that “the lives and safety of civilians cannot be a bargaining chip or a battleground,” insisting that the protection of residential areas is a moral and legal obligation that cannot be compromised or neglected.
The statement concluded by affirming that the rights of the victims and the blood of the innocent “will not be lost in the din of fighting,” calling for the principle of accountability to be upheld and for justice to be applied as an absolute priority in order to end the bloodshed of the Sudanese people and preserve their dignity.
