Togo: The government is stepping up national efforts to ensure the success of the 2026 reforestation campaign

June will once again be dedicated to environmental protection and vegetation restoration. The Togolese government officially launched, on Monday, May 25, 2026, the activities of the national reforestation campaign, which will take place across the entire national territory. This initiative is part of the vast national program aimed at planting one billion trees by 2030.

Through this campaign, the Togolese authorities intend to strengthen citizen engagement in preserving forest resources and combating the effects of climate change.

The Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources has unveiled a program of activities designed to mobilize populations around reforestation efforts.

The official launch of the campaign is scheduled for June 1, 2026, a date that also marks the celebration of National Tree Day.

Now extended to the entire month of June, this initiative aims to encourage citizens, local communities, associations, and public and private institutions to plant trees in their respective localities.

To ensure strong public participation, the ministry has initiated, since May 25, a vast national communication and awareness campaign.

The goal is to inform populations about environmental issues linked to deforestation, as well as the importance of reforestation in preserving ecosystems and improving living conditions.

This media campaign will mobilize several actors from the forest sector, including regional and prefectural environment officials, nursery workers, and various partners involved in nature protection.

Through radio programs, television appearances, and community meetings, these actors will raise awareness about good reforestation practices and the support mechanisms planned in the country’s different regions.

According to the ministry, this communication phase will also provide an opportunity to review the results achieved over the past five years under the national reforestation program.

The authorities thus wish to measure progress made and identify remaining challenges to reach the ambitious goal of one billion trees planted by 2030.

Through this initiative, the Togolese government reaffirms its commitment to making reforestation a national priority and an essential lever in the fight against land degradation and the effects of climate change
