Adama Traoré banned from weightlifting by his West Ham manager

Nuno Espírito Santo, the manager of West Ham, has taken a rather unusual decision regarding his winger Adama Traoré: he has formally forbidden him from lifting weights in training.

Speaking at a press conference before the match against Fulham, the Portuguese coach explained this surprising directive. “It’s incredible, it’s genetics. His genetics has been like this for some time now and he should avoid the gym,” Nuno stated. “I’ve told him to stay out of the gym. He already carries enough weight.”

While Nuno described the 30-year-old’s musculature as “incredible,” he believes the former Barcelona player has no need to develop his mass further. He would only be allowed in to do prevention work, but not to build muscle.

This instruction comes just days after a video was posted on social media by his teammate Crysencio Summerville.

It shows Traoré bench-pressing no less than 145kg, proving his impressive physical power remains intact.

To justify his position, the manager used the opposite example of a young U21 defender, Airidas Golambeckis: “He spends hours in the gym – we have to get weight on him. He’s the one that needs some muscle.”
