World Cup for the deaf: Senegal held by Ukraine

Senegal is pursuing its efforts in this 4th world deaf football Championships. Two days after beating Argentina (2-0), Senegal’s national team for the hearing impaired faced Ukraine in their second group match on Monday. However, Abdou Aziz Dieng’s men were held to a draw by Ukraine (2-2), despite the hearing-impaired Lions taking the lead on two occasions.

Mouhamadoul Amine Touré opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a well-placed shot.

After Ukraine equalised, Senegal scored a second goal thanks to Mouhamadou Ndiaye’s opportunism in the 39th minute.

However, in the second half, the Lions once again fell behind in the 80th minute. Senegal now face Thailand in their final group match.

The World Deaf Football Championships is a quadrennial global competition in the association football sport for deaf people. It is organised by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (CISS) and was first held in 2008.

The Lions of Senegal initially housed in group D, with France, Australia and Kuwait changed groups due to several withdrawals. But currently, they are in Group B with Argentina and Thailand, which they do not know well enough, and Ukraine, the Olympic champion.

Let’s recall that nineteen countries will take part in the 2023 Deaf World Cup. Cameroon, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana and Nigeria are the other African representatives at the competition.
