West Africa/Dark role of ECOWAS in Niger: Tensions between Mission and Actions

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was founded with the noble ambition of promoting peace, stability, and economic development within the sub-region. However, recent actions taken by this Organization in Niger raise concerns about the coherence between its declared mission and its actual actions. The evidence is there, the main mission of  Ecowas is very  far from being fulfilled.

Indeed, the organization seems to be deviating from its primary goal by adopting measures that could potentially further destabilize the situation in Niger and the sub-region.

However, ECOWAS’ decision to intervene militarily in Niger has raised questions about its role and motivations.

ECOWAS’s intervention in Niger contradicts its primary mission to prevent conflicts. Instead, the organization appears to be engaging in actions that could potentially create conflicts, further exacerbating the already precarious situation in the country.

Is ECOWAS carrying out external orders, especially those from France?

ECOWAS may have acted under the influence of France, which could be seeking to protect its economic and geopolitical interests in the region.

The role of France in previous crises, such as those in Libya, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria, speaks volumes.

Ihe main mission of  Ecowas is to promote peace and stability in the region. So, it is crucial for this Organization  to act accordingly.

Any action, which it takes  should be thoroughly examined to assess its consistency with this objective.

The member countries of ECOWAS have a collective responsibility to ensure that the organization acts in the best interest of the sub-region, independent of any external influence.
