Vinicius Jr. suspended for Brazil’s Copa America Quarter-Final clash against Uruguay

Brazil has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Copa America 2024 despite a 1-1 draw against Colombia, but they will face a major setback as their star player, Vinicius Jr., will be suspended for the next match.

Vinicius  Jr. received a yellow card during the game, adding to a previous one and resulting in an automatic suspension for Brazil’s quarter-final clash against Uruguay on Saturday.

The Seleção remained unbeaten in the group stage with two draws and one victory, but their performance was less than impressive.

A notable 4-1 win over Paraguay, featuring a double from Vinicius, was not enough to maintain their momentum against Colombia.

The match saw Vinicius reacting to a humiliating sombrero move by former Real Madrid teammate James Rodriguez with a retaliatory strike, earning him a costly yellow card.

Danilo, a key player for Brazil, expressed the team’s disappointment, acknowledging Vinicius’ crucial role in their successes. “He is a player who can win matches, but we will rely on the group and other talented players to fill the gap,” Danilo said.

Endrick, Vinicius’ future teammate at Real Madrid, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the readiness and quality of the entire squad to step up in Vinicius’ absence.

Endrick is expected to start against Uruguay, aiming to help Brazil secure a victory despite the loss of their star forward.
