Turmoil in Cameroonian Football: Head Coach Marc Brys suspended amidst governance dispute

Cameroonian football is in turmoil just two weeks before the national senior team’s training camp begins. The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has officially suspended the new head coach, Marc Brys, after initially recognizing him for the position.

The dispute centers on the composition of the technical staff that will support Brys.

The Ministry of Sports appointed a staff, but FECAFOOT, led by Samuel Eto’o, challenged this move, arguing that the government does not have the authority to make such appointments.

FECAFOOT responded by appointing its own technical staff, leading to a conflict referred to the Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration (CCA).

The CCA suspended Eto’o’s appointments, invalidating his choice of technical staff.

In response, Eto’o suspended Marc Brys, arguing that the decision affects the entire technical team.

He also threatened to escalate the issue to FIFA, which could have severe repercussions for Cameroonian football.

Currently, Cameroon is without a head coach or technical staff, a concerning situation with upcoming World Cup 2026 qualifying matches against Cape Verde on June 8 and Angola on June 11.

The ongoing conflict between the Ministry of Sports and FECAFOOT raises numerous questions about the management and support of the national team.
