Tunisia: Financial closing Achieved for a 120 MW Solar Power Plant

In July 2023, AMEA Power entered into an agreement with Powerchina to jointly develop renewable energy projects in Tunisia.

Recently, the Dubai-based renewable energy developer announced the successful financing of its 120 MW solar photovoltaic project in Tunisia, valued at $86 million.

Once operational, this project will become AMEA Power’s first functional asset in the country.

The solar plant will be located in Metbassta, in the Kairouan governorate, and will be implemented by Kairouan Solar Plant, a project company wholly owned by AMEA Power.

This project received financing from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

This marks a significant step forward for Tunisia in adopting renewable energy, as the country has lagged behind its neighbors and still heavily relies on fossil fuel imports for its electricity supply.

Hussain Al Nowais, President of AMEA Power, emphasized the importance of this achievement for both the company and Tunisia, as it represents the largest locally developed solar project to date.
