Togolese Foreign Minister visits Niamey to discuss transition in Niger

Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey visited Niamey on December 14 to discuss the political transition in Niger. This visit followed the ECOWAS heads of state summit, during which decisions were made regarding the transition in Niger.

Dussey held discussions with Niger’s Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, addressing issues related to the content and duration of the political transition.

The Togolese Minister described the meeting as «very enriching» and mentioned that the agreed details would be presented to the ECOWAS mediating Heads of State and the ECOWAS Commission.

He expressed optimism that the transition timetable would be established in January after ongoing discussions.

Another visit by the Togolese Foreign Minister  Robert DUSSEY is planned for early next year.

Following the ECOWAS summit in Abuja, a committee of heads of state was formed to engage in talks with the CNSP (National Council for the safeguard of the Homeland) and other stakeholders in Niger.
