Togo: Towards the creation of a Land Brigade to combat Double Land Sales

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in Togo is considering the establishment of a land brigade to combat the phenomenon of  Double land Sales, an illegal practice that leads to land disputes.

This initiative aims to address the issues faced by people when purchasing land that has already been sold to other buyers.

Koffitsè Besseh, the Director-General of Geographical Information and Cartography, emphasized the ministry’s desire to resolve conflicts related to land purchases.

The minister in charge is currently in discussions with their department to establish the land brigade and implement concrete measures.

On their part, the Togo Council of  land Surveyors (OGT) expressed their support for this initiative and proposed collaboration with all ministerial departments dealing with land.

Nikada Atcholadi, the president of OGT, pointed out that the issue of double land sales concerns communities and suggested strengthening public-private partnerships in the interest of users.
