Togo: Significant Repairs underway on National Road 2 in Lomé due to a sinkhole

A section of National Road 2, located on the eastern outskirts of Lomé, between the Port roundabout and the CIMTOGO roundabout, is undergoing extensive repair work following the sudden formation of a sinkhole in the road, alerting local authorities.

Technical teams, mobilized by the Ministry of Public Works, the Autonomous Port of Lomé, the Commune of Golfe 1, the National Civil Protection Agency, with the support of security forces, quickly investigated the situation.

Their initial assessment revealed a sinkhole and the rupture of a water collector from the 1960s that ran beneath the national road 2  at a depth of approximately 3 meters.

To address this issue, significant repair work was promptly initiated. These repairs involve excavating the roadway and removing the damaged collector, which will be reconstructed.

The Minister of Public Works, Zouréhatou Kassah-Traoré, visited the site to assess the progress of the repair work. Currently, traffic has been slightly diverted to allow the teams to work safely.

Authorities are fully committed to resolving this delicate situation, aiming to ensure the safety of road users and restore normal traffic as soon as possible.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution and follow the posted detours until the completion of the work.
