Togo / President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé and Saudi Arabia: A Shared Vision for Togo’s Future

President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé’s vision to diversify development partners for Togo has materialized through Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to transformation and modernization.

On October 11th, 2023, the President of the Republic of Togo, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, received a visit from the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Special Envoy Adel Bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir.

This meeting was marked by fruitful discussions on the growing partnership between the two nations, with congratulations from the King of Saudi Arabia and the Crown Prince, emphasizing the importance of this collaboration.

The friendship and cooperation between Togo and Saudi Arabia span various domains, including agriculture, economics, energy, and trade.

However, what stands out is Saudi Arabia’s commitment to developing Togolese infrastructure.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia actively supports policies to enhance road infrastructure, develop the hydraulic sector, cultivate agricultural lands, and fund the expansion of the electricity transmission and distribution network in Togo.

This assistance is made possible through the Saudi Fund for Development and the Islamic Development Bank.

In recent years, the cooperation between these two countries has significantly strengthened, particularly in the field of renewable energy.

A flagship project in this regard is the Blitta photovoltaic solar power plant, the largest in the West African sub-region.

This project exemplifies their joint commitment to promoting sustainable energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Furthermore, the chambers of commerce and industry in Togo and Saudi Arabia have established an exemplary partnership.

This has facilitated exchanges between investors and economic operators from both countries, thereby stimulating economic and commercial development.
