Togo/Maritime cooperation: West and Central African players build capacity in Lomé

In response to the growing challenges of international trade, maritime and port stakeholders from West and Central Africa have gathered in Lomé, Togo for a crucial training session aimed at enhancing their capacity to navigate these obstacles.

 

The event, which commenced on Monday, September 23, is hosting representatives from 16 ports across the region.

 

The training, set to conclude on Saturday, September 28, seeks to equip participants with up-to-date maritime strategies, drawing on the successful experience of Malaysia’s Port Klang.

 

Lomé was chosen as the host city due to its strategic importance in the region, reflecting Togo’s ambition to establish itself as a maritime hub.

 

 

The program is designed to sharpen the expertise of attendees, improve their operational efficiency, and boost the competitiveness of their ports amidst the demands of modern global trade.

 

For Togo, the event is seen as an opportunity to solidify its commitment to enhancing port infrastructure and operations, aligning with the government’s ongoing efforts to modernize the Lomé port zone.

 

Officials have expressed that hosting such a high-profile regional gathering underscores Lomé’s growing influence in the maritime sector and its role in promoting best practices across West and Central Africa.
