Togo: Faure Gnassingbé’s Government committed to reducing extreme poverty and the vulnerability of its citizens
In Togo, the commitment of President Faure Gnassingbé to social inclusion through various social programs has significantly reduced extreme poverty and vulnerability among the grassroots populations. One such program, called «Basic Social Nets», implemented by the National Agency for Grassroots Development Support (ANADEB), recently concluded after six years of operation.
According to ANADEB’s report, the Togolese government, with support from certain partners, has made efforts to strengthen resilience and social cohesion within communities.
This has been achieved through accompanying measures, training sessions, educational talks, and capacity-building initiatives for beneficiaries and communities.
Throughout its implementation, the project reached 15,001 households, economically empowering them towards financial autonomy.
Additionally, 13,732 women received business development training. Furthermore, 104,240 households benefited from cash transfers across nearly 975 localities.
Moreover, 52,173 students in 161 public primary schools received over 15 million school meals.
In essence, the Basic Social Nets project has improved the daily lives of thousands of Togolese, particularly in rural areas. During the six years of its execution, over 39 billion FCFA were mobilized.
