Burkina Faso:  The national Police intercept 700kg of Indian Hemp

The National Police has apprehended in Burkina Faso, an individual involved in illicit drug trafficking. Approximately 700 kg of Indian hemp (cannabis) was seized in the Hauts-Bassins region.

As part of the fight against illicit drug trafficking, the Burkinabe police have arrested an individual operating alone.

His modus operandi mainly involved concealing drugs by exchanging them with motorcycles in locations where purchases or deliveries took place.

According to details provided by the police, the alleged trafficker obtained his merchandise from outside the country. Once he received the goods, he would enter the Burkinabe territory by traversing routes that pass-through areas known to be dangerous in order to circumvent checkpoints.

Subsequently, he conducted his selling operations in certain border areas and, with the money earned, he would in turn purchase motorcycles. He would then exchange these motorcycles with suppliers living abroad.

This illicit trade also enabled him to supply commercial establishments, such as clothing boutiques that he had set up.

The arrest of the suspected criminal by the regional service of the judicial police in the Hauts-Bassins region was made possible through the collaboration of the local population, with the assistance of the Kourouma District Police Station (CPD) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Nation (VPD) in that area.

Law enforcement authorities were able to seize several items from his possession, including a significant quantity of Indian hemp, consisting of six hundred and ninety-eight (698) blocks, totaling approximately seven hundred and sixty (760) kg.

The National Police once again expressed its gratitude to the population for their collaboration in the successful operation.

They took the opportunity to encourage them to remain vigilant and continue the momentum of reporting by using the available toll-free hotline numbers, which are 17, 16, and 1010.
