Ter Stegen equaled one Barca legend and surpassed another

Starting against FC Porto on Wednesday night, German goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen is chasing records. He played his 387th match in the colors of FC Barcelona, the same number as Antoni Ramallets, Barcelona’s goalkeeper from 1947 to 1961.

The FC Barcelona’s visit to the Dragão Stadium (a 1-0 victory) holds special significance for Ter Stegen, as he becomes the third goalkeeper to have played the most matches wearing the Blaugrana jersey.

Ter Stegen now has his sights set on Andoni Zubizarreta’s record of 410 matches.

It was Zubizarreta who brought the German to Barcelona when he was the club’s sporting director. Afterward, Victor Valdes’ record of 535 matches could be an objective.

Once again this season, the 31-year-old German goalkeeper and former Mönchengladbach player has all the tools to break or even surpass Victor Valdes’ record, given his contract that runs until 2028.

In the 9 matches he has played this season, Ter Stegen has conceded 8 goals and kept 5 clean sheets.

Since joining the Catalan club, the German goalkeeper has filled his trophy cabinet, winning the Champions League, 5 La Liga titles, 5 Copa del Rey trophies, 3 Spanish Super Cups, and 1 Club World Cup.
