Tennis/US Open: Zverev bows to Alcaraz and Djokovic

In the quarter-finals of the US Open, Alexander Zverev faced a tough challenge from Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, ultimately losing 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 on the Arthur Ashe court during the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

Zverev, who was both physically drained from his intense battle with Italian Jannik Sinner in the previous round and nursing an injury sustained during the match, couldn’t deliver the level of performance he had aimed for.

However, Zverev refused to use these factors as excuses, and instead, he chose to acknowledge the exceptional level at which his opponent was playing, drawing a comparison with Novak Djokovic.

He stated, «I’ve played against Novak (Djokovic) in Cincinnati, and I’ve played against Carlos here. I think they have very, very similar levels of play. While Novak excels in some aspects, Carlos outperforms him in others. Right now, I believe they are on a different level, and the rest of us have some catching up to do. It’s as straightforward as that».

Remarkably, Alexander Zverev is on track to re-enter the Top 10 rankings next week, just a little over a year after recovering from a serious ankle injury.
