Tennis/US Open: Djokovic defeated Medvedev to claim his 24th Grand Slam title!

On Sunday, September 10th, at the US Open, the 36-year-old Novak Djokovic secured his 24th Grand Slam title by defeating Russian player Daniil Medvedev in a three-set match (6-3, 7-6 [5], 6-3). This victory puts him on par with Margaret Court for the all-time record of Grand Slam victories, combining both men’s and women’s tennis.

The second set proved to be a particularly intense battle, lasting nearly one hour and 39 minutes, with neither player giving up their service games.

Djokovic eventually clinched the tiebreaker, a crucial turning point in his victory.

Djokovic’s key to success was his net play, often employing a strategy of serving with topspin to the outside and following it up with a volley on the return. He managed to convert an impressive 84% of his net approaches.

Despite a brief break by Medvedev in the third set, Djokovic showed his determination to wrap up the match swiftly.

Medvedev, known for his resilience, had to acknowledge Djokovic’s superiority.

This marked the fourth Grand Slam final that Medvedev lost out of five, but it’s worth noting that he faced tennis legends like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

For Djokovic, this victory marked his fourth US Open title, and he ends the year with three Grand Slam titles, a feat he previously achieved in 2011, 2015, and 2021.

Overall, he has participated in 72 Grand Slam tournaments, reaching 36 finals and securing victory in 24 of them, accounting for one-third of his final appearances.
