South Africa announces squad for crucial 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe

South Africa’s head coach, Hugo Broos, has announced a 23-man squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria on June 7 and Zimbabwe on June 11. The notable inclusion is Burnley striker Lyle Foster, who returns to the squad after mental health issues kept him out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

His return bolsters an already strong attacking lineup featuring Iqraam Rayners and Themba Zwane.

The Bafana Bafana are riding high on their unbeaten streak since winning the bronze medal at AFCON.

In their last outings in March, South Africa drew 1-1 against Andorra and 3-3 in a thrilling match against Algeria.

The squad also includes standout goalkeeper Ronwen Williams from Mamelodi Sundowns, named the best goalkeeper at the last AFCON, as well as Teboho Mokoena and his long-range strikes, and Percy Tau, who recently won the CAF Champions League with Al-Ahly.

South Africa has not qualified for the World Cup since hosting it in 2010, a 14-year absence they aim to end.

Currently second in Group C with three points, Broos and his squad are determined to secure a spot in the next edition, set to be hosted by the United States and Mexico.
