Senegal’s Prime Minister, Amadou Bâ, nominated by the ruling party as its candidate for the February 2024 presidential election

Senegal’s Prime Minister Amadou Bâ has been officially nominated as the candidate for the ruling party in the upcoming presidential election on February 25. The investiture ceremony took place in the presence of the outgoing President Macky Sall, who has endorsed Bâ as his successor. Amadou Bâ, aged 62, accepted the nomination, emphasizing his commitment to implementing the Senegal Emerging Plan (PSE) and expressing dedication to progress, peace, prosperity, and equitable wealth distribution.

As a former Prime Minister with a background in various ministerial roles, Bâ is well acquainted with the challenges facing the country, particularly in the areas of migration and youth employment.

Over 200 candidacies, including those from dissidents within the ruling party, have been declared for the presidential election.

Opposition figures such as former Prime Minister Idrissa Seck, former minister Karim Wade, former Dakar mayor Khalifa Sall, and Ousmane Sonko have also announced their candidacy.

Ousmane Sonko, despite facing administrative hurdles, continues to denounce an alleged conspiracy to prevent him from participating in the presidential election. The deadline for candidate submissions is December 26, and the Constitutional Council will rule on their validation by the end of December.
