Sahel / The Liptako-Gourma Charter: A successful regional alliance against terrorism

The Liptako-Gourma Charter, establishing the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) between Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, is already bearing significant fruit. The aim of this alliance is to strengthen regional cooperation in the fight against the scourge of terrorism in the Sahel region. The armies of Burkina Faso and Niger have demonstrated the success of this collaboration by inflicting heavy losses on terrorist groups operating in the region.

One of the most striking operations took place when the Burkinabe and Nigerien armed forces jointly attacked a column of terrorists and their equipment.

The attackers had left the territory of Niger in the direction of Kantchari in Burkina Faso.

Thanks to perfect coordination between Burkinabe and Nigerien helicopters, they were able to neutralise the threat, which consisted of around a hundred motorbikes, and destroy a large part of their logistics.

Another successful operation targeted a group of terrorists on 18 motorbikes coming from the Malian border towards the commune of Koumbri, in the north of Burkina Faso.

The air assets struck just as they paused in an abandoned village, inflicting heavy losses on the terrorists.

These successful operations testify to the effectiveness of the cooperation between the armed forces of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, in accordance with the Liptako-Gourma Charter.

They also underline the continued determination of these countries to track down and neutralise the terrorist groups that threaten peace and stability in the Sahel region.

Counter-terrorism operations are continuing on all fronts as part of this crucial regional alliance.
