Real Madrid’s Rodrygo faces racist insults after Superclasico clash with Messi

Real Madrid forward Rodrygo revealed on Thursday that he has been subjected to racist attacks on social media following the Superclasico match between Brazil and Argentina, where tensions escalated between Rodrygo and Argentine star Lionel Messi. The 22-year-old Brazilian denounced the influx of insults and nonsensical comments, including the use of banana and monkey emojis on his profiles.

Expressing his determination not to succumb to such behavior, Rodrygo highlighted the need to stand firm against racism and hinted at potential legal action.

«If we don’t do what they want, if we don’t behave as they think we should, if we wear something that bothers them, if we don’t lower our heads when we are attacked, if we occupy spaces that they think are theirs alone, racists take action with his criminal behaviour. Their bad luck. We will not stop! », he wrote.

His teammates, including Neymar and Vinicius Jr, offered their support, with Neymar emphasizing Rodrygo’s resilience in the face of adversity.

The match, held at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, ended in a 1-0 victory for Argentina, breaking Brazil’s historic unbeaten streak at home in the South American World Cup qualifiers.

Despite heated exchanges with Messi and Rodrigo De Paul during the match, Rodrygo played the full duration of the game.

The Superclasico was marred by delays due to clashes between supporters and police, adding another layer of tension to the already high-stakes encounter.
