Real Madrid held to a draw in La Liga opener against Mallorca

After FC Barcelona’s opening match, Real Madrid made their much-anticipated return to La Liga this Sunday. Traveling to face Mallorca, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad struggled to secure all three points.

Just like in the UEFA Super Cup last Wednesday, Ancelotti opted to field all his offensive stars, including new signing Kylian Mbappé.

Although Real Madrid dominated the game, they weren’t as dazzling as expected.

The reigning Spanish champions broke through Mallorca’s deep defense just before the 15th minute with a superb curling shot from Rodrygo, putting them ahead (0-1, 13’). Mallorca tried to fight back but with little success, leaving Real Madrid with a slight advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Mallorca’s persistent efforts to challenge the Madrid giants finally paid off. From a Dani Rodriguez corner, Vedat Muriqi capitalized on a defensive lapse to head the ball powerfully into the net, leveling the score (1-1, 53’).

Despite not being at their best, Real Madrid tried to regain the lead, but Mallorca’s solid defense held firm, even coming close to taking the lead twice.

The score remained unchanged until the final whistle, meaning Real Madrid’s La Liga debut was less successful than anticipated.
