Papu Gomez faces setback as Two-Year doping suspension appeal gets rejected

Argentinian World Cup champion Alejandro Darío Gómez, known as Papu Gomez, faces another setback as his appeal against a two-year doping suspension has been rejected.

The AC Monza midfielder tested positive for terbutaline, a substance found in respiratory sprays, in November 2022.

Despite filing an appeal against the suspension, the 36-year-old’s efforts were in vain, and the ban was upheld.

The news was delivered by Monza’s coach, Raffaele Palladino, in a pre-match press conference ahead of the Genoa-Monza game on Saturday at 20:45.

Gomez, who last played on October 8, 2023, had joined Monza after stints with Atalanta Bergamo and FC Sevilla.

However, his time with the Serie A club was short-lived, featuring in only two matches before the doping sanction.

With the rejection of the appeal, Gomez’s return to professional football remains uncertain, especially considering his age.
