Niger: Burkina Faso and Mali oppose ECOWAS sanctions against Niger

Burkina Faso and Mali support Niger by opposing Ecowas sanctions against Niger. In a joint statement, the governments of Burkina Faso and Mali expressed their firm refusal to apply the sanctions imposed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) against the people and authorities of Niger.

According to the statement, these sanctions are illegitimate, illegal, and inhumane, harming the stability and well-being of the West African region. Burkina Faso and Mali show solidarity with their brotherly and friendly country, Niger, as it asserts its sovereignty.

They denounce the ECOWAS sanctions, which worsen the suffering of the populations, and they refuse to implement them.

They warn that any military intervention against Niger would be considered a declaration of war against them and would lead to their withdrawal from ECOWAS.

They caution against the disastrous consequences of such intervention, citing the damages caused by NATO’s intervention in Libya. The governments of Burkina Faso and Mali call on all forces to mobilize and support the Nigerien people during this dark period of Pan-Africanism.
