Mali: Orange Foundation senior age Caravan – Mali

The Minister of Health and Social Development, Colonel Assa Badiallo Touré, has officially launched the 28th edition of the senior age  caravan, initiated by  the Orange Mali Foundation.

This initiative is part of the Month of Solidarity and the fight against exclusion in Mali. The Foundation’s project is worth 43 million CFA francs.

The senior age caravan, formerly known as the ophtalmological caravan, aims to support the Ministry of Health and Social Development in improving the health of the elderly.

This year, in addition to ophthalmological care, the caravan is offering medical consultations in general medicine, cardiology, urology and diabetes in various locations in Mali, including Gao, Timbuktu and Kati.

The initiative will run from October to December, with over 5,000 consultations and 600 cataract surgeries planned.

The Orange Mali Foundation, in partnership with the National Eye Health Programme (PNSO) and the National Council for the Elderly in Mali (CNPAM), has been running this solidarity initiative since 2005.

To date, it has carried out more than 76,000 consultations and 10,000 cataract surgeries throughout Mali.

The official opening of the Caravan was presided over by the Minister of Health and Social Development, in the presence of Toumani Sidibé, Vice-President of the Association of Veterans and Victims of War.

This initiative marks the start of Solidarity Month in Mali and also includes other solidarity actions, with a total budget estimated at 43 million CFA francs.
