Joel Embiid extends stay with 76ers through 2029 in Blockbuster Deal

Joel Embiid, the centerpiece of the Philadelphia 76ers, has inked a new three-year contract extension with the team, securing his place with the franchise until 2029. The seven-time NBA All-Star’s deal, worth $193 million, includes a player option for the 2028-29 season, according to a source who shared the details under anonymity as the terms have not been officially disclosed.

Embiid took to Instagram early Friday morning to share the news with fans, posting a photo of himself signing the contract next to team owner Josh Harris.

“Philadelphia is where my heart is,” Embiid wrote. “I want to finish my career here.

The support from this community means everything to me and my family. There’s still a lot of work ahead, and I believe we’re just getting started. This city deserves a championship, and that’s what we’re focused on.”

Closing his post with the now-iconic 76ers mantra, “#trusttheprocess,” Embiid reaffirmed his commitment to Philadelphia, where he has blossomed since being drafted third overall in 2014.

The reigning NBA MVP added yet another accolade to his decorated career this summer by securing a gold medal with Team USA at the Olympics.

Embiid’s list of achievements continues to grow, boasting five All-NBA Team selections, seven consecutive All-Star appearances from 2017 to 2024, and three All-Defensive Team honors.

Twice the NBA’s scoring champion, he’s cemented his place among the league’s elite.
