Injury Woes for Morocco as Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui faces AFCON absence

Versatile Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui is facing a major injury setback less than a month before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

The string of withdrawals within African teams is escalating, following the already noted absences of Cheick Doucouré and Ibrahima Koné for Mali, as well as Taiwo Awoniyi for Nigeria.

Mazraoui’s calf injury occurred on Tuesday night during the match against Manchester United on the sixth and final day of the Champions League group stage (0-1). Bayern Munich confirmed that the player will be sidelined for six weeks.

This news represents a significant blow for Mazraoui and also for the Lions of the Atlas, who reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup and are considered strong contenders for AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.
