Ghana: An ultra-modern cocoa pulp processing factory has been built

For some years now, Ghana has been implementing a number of mechanisms to optimise the cocoa value chain. The idea is to make the most of all the components of the fruit and extract maximum benefit. In the recent past, Ghanaian farmers did not know what to do with the cocoa pulp.

As the world’s second largest cocoa producer, Ghana has just added value to its highly sought-after fruit.

An ultra-modern plant for processing cocoa pulp into juice has just been opened in Ghana, in the Achiase district in the east of the country to be precise.

This ambitious project is the brainchild of KOA Impact Ghana Limited, a Swiss-Ghanaian agri-food company.

Cocoa pulp used to be seen as a waste product, whereas in fact it is a great asset.

According to experts in the field, the pulp is packed with an extremely nutritious sweet juice.

When processed industrially, the pulp can be made into juice, which is used as an ingredient in chocolate confectionery, ice cream and drinks.

The pulp is a thick sweet substance that envelops the fresh beans inside the cocoa pod.

With this industrial infrastructure, KOA Impact Ghana Limited hopes to have an impact on the lives of rural communities and enable farmers to substantially increase their incomes.
