Football/Spain: Calls for protection of Lamine Yamal grow amid physical targeting

Concerns are mounting in Spain over the physical toll on Barcelona’s rising star, Lamine Yamal. The 17-year-old prodigy has become the focus of the Spanish press, with media outlets urging for better protection.

Leading sports dailies like AS and Sport have called for authorities to safeguard the young talent, particularly after his rough treatment in Spain’s recent match against Denmark.

During the game, Yamal was frequently targeted by Danish defenders, with Kristiansen notably delivering aggressive challenges aimed at the winger, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo.

The match ended with  Lamine Yamal leaving the field late, and although medical reports confirmed no serious injury, the youngster was sent home to rest, citing fatigue from the intense schedule and on-pitch physicality.

Yamal’s situation is exacerbated by the fact that he is currently the most fouled player in European football, regularly drawing yellow cards for his opponents.

His impressive performances are coming at a cost, with fears growing that repeated fouling could lead to injuries.

The Spanish press is now calling for stricter sanctions against players who excessively target Yamal, stressing that the 16-year-old must be protected from further harm.

As Barcelona closely monitors his health, there are growing concerns that his immense talent could be overshadowed by recurring injuries unless immediate action is taken to protect him on the pitch.
