Football/ FA: Thomas Tuchel appointed Head Coach of England National Football Team

The Football Association (FA) has officially announced the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as the new head coach of the England men’s national football team.

The former head coach of Bayern Munich will be supported by Anthony Barry, a respected English coach with extensive international experience.

Tuchel, who previously managed Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, brings a wealth of success to the role, including league titles in Germany and France, as well as the Champions League triumph with Chelsea in 2021.

His hiring follows an extensive recruitment process initiated after England’s impressive run to the UEFA EURO 2024 final.

FA CEO Mark Bullingham emphasized the thoroughness of the selection process, stating, “Thomas was very impressive and stood out with his vast expertise and drive.” Tuchel and Barry will officially begin their tenure on January 1, 2025, as England gears up for the qualification rounds for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the USA.

Interim head coach Lee Carsley will continue to lead the team through the UEFA Nations League group stage, with crucial matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland approaching.

Following this, Carsley will shift focus to the England U21 team as they defend their UEFA U21 EURO title.

In his statement, Tuchel expressed pride in leading the England team and highlighted his eagerness to work with a talented squad. Barry echoed these sentiments, noting the importance of the national team to English football.

As the new coaching duo prepares to embark on this exciting journey, England fans are optimistic about the team’s prospects in upcoming international competitions.
