Football/ Europe: Manchester City win their first Supercup against Sevilla

Manchester City won the UEFA Super Cup by winning a penalty shootout against Sevilla. Despite Nemanja Gudelj missing a penalty for Sevilla, City emerged victorious with a 5-4 score.

This victory added to their other trophies – Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

They could potentially win five out of six trophies this year, missing only the Community Shield. Cole Palmer’s header equalized for City after Youssef En-Nesyri had given Sevilla the lead.

Erling Haaland, Julian Álvarez, Mateo Kovacic, Jack Grealish, and Kyle Walker all scored perfectly in the shootout. Guardiola mentioned that this might be Palmer’s last game for City, as there’s uncertainty about his future. Rodri’s cross led to Palmer’s header for the equalizer.

On a hot night, Palmer stood out for City, replacing Riyad Mahrez. City dominated early on but couldn’t break Sevilla’s defense.

Grealish’s shot was saved, and Sevilla struggled to stop City’s fluid moves. Sevilla capitalized on a City mistake to take the lead through En-Nesyri’s header.

Manchester City lost their momentum, missing key players like Gündogan, De Bruyne, and Silva. Foden couldn’t influence the game much. Palmer’s header leveled the score. The penalty shootout followed, with City prevailing.
