Foot: OL announces its new head coach: Fabio Grosso!

Olympique Lyonnais has officially announced its new choice for the head coach position, with Fabio Grosso set to succeed Laurent Blanc.

This decision comes after exploring the option of Gennaro Gattuso, Habib BEYE but ultimately, another former Italian World Cup champion has been selected to take over the reins of the team.

Grosso will be tasked with swiftly turning the team’s fortunes around as they currently languish at the bottom of the Ligue 1 table.

The name Fabio Grosso will evoke both fond memories among Lyon supporters and less pleasant ones among French fans.

The former left-back, who represented the Italian national team, is notably known for playing a pivotal role in Italy’s victory in the 2006 World Cup final against France, where he scored the decisive penalty in that memorable shootout.

In the summer of 2007, Fabio Grosso made a €7 million move to Olympique Lyonnais, becoming the first Italian player to don the Gones’ jersey.

He replaced Eric Abidal, who had departed for FC Barcelona. Under his guidance, the team secured the Trophee des Champions in 2007, the Ligue 1 title in 2008, and the French Cup.

In total, he made 79 appearances in the colors of OL.

As for his coaching career, the 45-year-old coach began in 2017 with Bari, before taking charge of Hellas Verona, Brescia, and FC Sion.

He notably made a name for himself last season by winning the Serie B championship with Frosinone, despite leaving the club despite their promotion to Serie A.
