Foot/England: Jamaica opens the door to Mason Greenwood

From Three Lions to Reggae Boy, the path seems to be paved for Mason Greenwood, who has received an enticing offer from Jamaica’s national team coach, Heimir Hallgrímsson, who has left the door open for his change of nationality in favor of the Caribbean nation.

As reported by the Daily Mail in August when the 22-year-old striker was still without a club after Manchester United’s decision to part ways with him, Mason Greenwood is indeed getting closer to a change in his sporting nationality.

The legal episode he went through in recent years transformed him from a national gem into a controversial figure, and even though all charges against him were dropped in February, seeing Greenwood in an England jersey again seems increasingly unlikely.

However, the fact that he has found a new club (Getafe) and is performing well there (1 goal and 1 assist in 5 matches) has revived the question of his international career with Jamaica, the country of his mother, which is closely monitoring his situation.

Currently in camp for the Concacaf Nations League, Reggae Boyz coach Heimir Hallgrímsson openly courted the player developed by the Red Devils.

«I’m no different from any coach in the world; we would like to have the best talent on our team», he said in a press conference, as reported by United District.

«If he regains his form and his previous level, he will certainly have the necessary quality to help Jamaica», Hallgrímsson added.

On the path to regaining his former form, Mason Greenwood is eligible for a change of sporting nationality, having only one cap with Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions.
