Emmanuel Adebayor favors Algeria as Top contender in upcoming 2023 AFCON over defending Champions Senegal

Emmanuel Adebayor, former captain of the Togolese national team, has taken an intriguing stance regarding the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), favoring Algeria over the defending champion, Senegal. In a recent statement, Adebayor, known for his close ties with El Hadj Diouf, highlighted Algeria as a team with all the attributes to clinch the prestigious trophy.

The former captain of the Togo national team emphasized Algeria’s impressive performance in a friendly match against Togo, praising the team’s quality of play, especially with players like Bentaleb, Mahrez, and Slimani.

Adebayor expressed his best wishes for the Algerian team in the 2023 AFCON, underscoring their potential to secure the title.

«Algeria has a very good team; we saw that against Togo. I wish them good luck for the AFCON, and why not win the title? Algeria plays very well with the ball, Bentaleb was very good, playing simple and often making the right decisions. With Mahrez and Slimani, I think they have every chance to win the AFCON, but one must be cautious in such a competition», said Emmanuel Adebayor in an interview with Anis Meziane (ENTV) after the friendly match.

This distinct perspective on the favorites for the AFCON2023 adds an intriguing element to the approaching competition, with Algeria capturing the attention of the former Togolese football star.
