Drogba blames lack of commitment for Ivory Coast’s humiliating defeat in AFCON

Didier Drogba strongly reacted to Ivory Coast’s defeat in the final group stage match of the Africa Cup of Nations, where the team suffered a heavy 4-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea. As a consultant for NCI Television, the former captain of the Elephants pointed fingers at a lack of commitment from the team.

According to Drogba, the issue doesn’t lie in the tactical system employed by coach Jean Louis Gasset but rather in a deficiency of commitment from the Ivorian players.

He emphasized that the team possesses the necessary tactical skills, having faced various styles of opposition both in national team and club competitions.

Didier Drogba insisted that at this level, there should be no doubts about their ability to execute the game plan, as they have previously won matches under similar circumstances.

«We cannot find excuses for them regarding the tactical aspect. Whether it’s with the Ivory Coast national team or at the club level, they face different styles of opposition every day, so they have the keys to execute this system. At this level, we are no longer in the realm of ‘oh yes, can they…?’. They have already won matches like this. That is not what is in question», emphasized Drogba.

This underscores the need for increased commitment from the players to avoid such humiliating defeats.
