Dismissal of Egyptian National Team Coach Rui Victoria Following AFCON 2023 exit

The elimination in the round of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against the DR Congo has resulted in significant changes for the Egyptian national team. Following this defeat, the Egyptian Football Federation (EFA) announced in a statement on Sunday evening the dismissal of head coach Rui Victoria and his coaching staff.

Arriving in July 2022, Rui Victoria will no longer hold the position of head coach for Egypt.

This decision comes after a series of three consecutive draws against Mozambique, Ghana, and Cape Verde, and an elimination on penalties against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Criticisms and calls for the coach’s departure multiplied from both supporters and experts, eventually leading the Federation to take this action.

Mohamed Youssef will temporarily assume the role of interim coach. “We thank Roy Vitoria and his coaching staff.

The Board of Directors of the Egyptian Football Federation has decided to part ways with Portuguese Rui Vitoria, the head coach of the Egyptian national team, and his coaching staff, while studying the profiles of foreign coaches and presenting them at the next meeting,” stated the EFA.
