Burkina Faso: It will soon be possible for citizens to get their criminal records online.

The  digitalization of  the criminal record will soon be possible in Burkina Faso. Burkinabe citizens will be able to request their criminal record online from anywhere within the national territory.

The Council of Ministers, under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, adopted a draft decree concerning the central criminal record on May 17, 2023.

The advantage of this digitalization process is that it ensures the reliability of the document by centralizing information on convicted individuals.

«We have initiated a process at the ministry to digitize the issuance of the criminal record. In essence, we want every Burkinabe to be able to request a criminal record online from wherever they are and have the document delivered online», said the Minister of Justice, Mrs. Bibata NEBIE/OUEDRAOGO.

Togolese residents or members of the diaspora can now obtain their criminal record without the need to travel to their place of birth.

They can simply use a phone or computer to request and receive the criminal record. They no longer need to travel to their birthplace to obtain it.

The law adopted by the Council of Ministers will help energize the services of the judicial system while bringing it closer to the population, thereby reducing expenses.

Additionally, automation ensures reliability and reduces the often-necessary waiting time for the issuance of this document.

The adoption of this bill represents a new milestone for the Burkinabe Government in the process of establishing a digitized administration.
