Calls for sanctions against Karim Benzema following controversial statements

The statement from the French Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin, linking the footballer Karim Benzema to the Muslim Brotherhood, has sparked reactions. Senator Valérie Boyer, in a press release, has announced a series of measures against the former Real Madrid player, who is currently with Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

«If the statements made by the Minister of the Interior are proven true, we must consider sanctions against Karim Benzema. One symbolic measure would be to revoke his Ballon d’Or award. Furthermore, we should explore the possibility of revoking his French nationality», she wrote.

«We cannot tolerate that a dual French national, internationally renowned, could dishonor and even betray our country in such a manner», she added.

This marks a remarkable twist in the player’s career, considering he has already faced several off-field controversies. If these accusations are substantiated, it would undoubtedly render Benzema an unwelcome figure in the entire football world, marking the most severe allegation he has ever faced.
