Burkina Faso: The opening of the proceedings of the 5th edition of the National Meeting of the CODESP, chaired by His Excellency Dr. Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla.

On Monday, July 3, 2023, the Prime Minister, Dr. Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla, opened the proceedings of the 5th edition of the CODESP National Meeting of the Framework for Consultation and Guidance for State/Private Sector Dialogue  in Bobo-Dioulasso. He urged business actors to seize the opportunity to play a significant role in the process of revitalizing the national economy.

«The role of land in promoting productive investment in Burkina Faso» is the theme of the 5th edition of the National Meeting of the Framework for Consultation and Guidance for State/Private Sector Dialogue (CODESP), held from July 3rd to 5th, 2023, in Bobo-Dioulasso.

The objectives of this 5th edition of  the CODESP are to present the state of implementation of the recommendations and commitments made in 2021, as well as the actions envisaged for implementing the recommendations from the regional and sectoral meetings in 2022.

It will also provide an opportunity to address concerns that have not received satisfactory responses in previous instances, with the aim of fostering policies and reforms that create a more conducive environment for private sector development, in line with the objectives of this consultation framework.

In addition to the main theme, several other topics will be covered during this meeting.

These include presentations on « Combating the rise in prices of consumer goods in Burkina Faso: measures taken and perspectives», «Public/private partnership for the development of industrial zones, growth poles, and economic platforms (special economic zones, free zones, various activity zones, etc.) » and «Optimizing land policy for sustainable productive investments in a context of security challenges».

During the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Dr. Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla emphasized that the government fully recognizes the numerous challenges in supporting the structural transformation of the Burkinabe economy.

He explained that the Action Plan for Stabilization and Development (PASD), initiated by the Transition President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, gives significant importance to the private sector, rightly seen as the main driver of economic growth.

The Prime Minister promised that the government would create favorable conditions for the emergence of a dynamic and prosperous private sector, which is crucial for inclusive and sustainable economic development.

Mamady Sanoh, the 2nd Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso (CCI-BF), praised the recent adoption of the law on real estate promotion, which will ensure better management of national land, preserve arable land, and promote decent housing and the implementation of integrated development projects.

Considering the current national and international economic, political, and social context, he described organizing such a major event as the National Meeting of CODESP as both a challenge and an act of resilience.

He expressed the full support of the private sector in the fight to restore our territory and acknowledged the efforts already undertaken by President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, and the entire government.

He believed that unity, cohesion, and consultation are the keys to face those challenges.
