Burkina Faso: The nation rewards the merit of 265 people.

The Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, presided over the decoration ceremony of 265 civilians and soldiers on Tuesday 27 December 2022. This event, which has become a custom, is an opportunity to reward the merit of these brave sons and daughters for their service to the nation. Thus 138 people were decorated in the order of the Stallion and 127 in the order of Burkinabe merit.

The merit award ceremony was held in the Grande Chancellerie in Ouagadougou.

Among the valiant recipients were General Pingrenoma Zagre, former Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces and current Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Ghana; the Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou; the Minister of Digital, Aminata Zerbo-Sabané; the Secretary General of the Government, Jacques Sosthène Dingara and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivia Rouamba.

Raised to the rank of Officer of the Order of the Stallion, Olivia Rouamba dedicated her medal to the Defence and Security Forces who are alive and died for the country. According to her, the award is a call to redouble their efforts in order to get the country out of the terrorist yoke.

“It is a reminder of a duty, a self-sacrifice in the daily task that we perform and also a call for us to stay in step and work so that the country can truly regain its security and tranquility of yesteryear,” the diplomat said.

Another recipient, Professor Abdoulaye Soma, believes that the merit obtained is for him an exhortation to more dedication and self-sacrifice for the development of Burkina Faso.

“As far as I am concerned, I must confirm my commitment to work in political integrity, in political values to support our nation. (…) I will increase my political commitment to contribute as much as I can to the prosperity, happiness and greatness of our nation,” he said.

An opinion shared by Estelle Bationa-Bayala, member of the Transitional Legislative Assembly. Decorated in the order of Burkinabe merit, the recipient also believes that the decoration received is an invitation to work harder for the prosperity of the country. “It is a feeling of joy for the merit that I have been recognised. It is also a call to do better for the development of our country,” she said.

In the same vein, Professor Abdoulaye Soma, one of the recipients, said that this decoration is for him an invitation to more self-sacrifice in working for the development of Burkina Faso.
