Burkina Faso / The Battle of the Burkinabe Government against Seasonal Malaria: The Minister of Health leads the Charge in Ziniaré

The Burkinabe government is firmly committed to protecting the health of its population, especially the most vulnerable children, against seasonal malaria. The Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Robert Kargougou, recently oversaw the implementation of a Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention campaign in the Central Plateau region, in Ziniaré.

The Outré Yaoghin health district in Ziniaré was at the heart of this initiative, with the minister and his team visiting the field.

The purpose of this visit was to closely monitor the implementation of the campaign aimed at strongly encouraging children aged 3 to 59 months to take the prescribed medication.

The campaign is managed by Community-Based Health Workers (ASBC), who are responsible for identifying eligible children, screening for potential cases of malnutrition and edema, and administering the necessary medication to these children.

According to the Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Kargougou, this Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention involves administering drugs to children over a period of three days.

This measure aims to protect children against malaria, a devastating disease.

The Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene has also taken measures to combat mosquito breeding sites, primarily in the cities of Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, due to the prevalence of dengue in these areas.

However, the minister assured that this action would gradually extend to the entire country.

The Burkinabe government demonstrates its commitment to the well-being of its population by implementing initiatives such as Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention.
