Burkina Faso: Strong words from H.E. Dr Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm of Tambèla to economic operators in the Cascades region

The Prime Minister, Dr Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla, held a meeting with entrepreneurs from the Cascades region in Banfora on September 1st, 2023 to discuss their concerns. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the Transition Government is resolutely committed to promoting the private sector in Burkina Faso. With this in mind, the head of government met with entrepreneurs from the Waterfalls region to better understand their concerns and present his vision for economic development in the region and the country.

At the meeting, entrepreneurs from the Cascades region raised a number of concerns about the government’s support for the private sector.

They raised issues such as access to finance for young people and women, the development of industrial estates, the lack of infrastructure at the University of Banfora, irrigation problems for market gardening, road infrastructure and strengthening the production capacity of the Flour Mill of Faso (Minoterie du Faso (MINOFA), among others.

In response, Dr Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm from Tambèla pointed out that some of these concerns have already been addressed by the government and are in the process of being implemented.

The Prime Minister also shared his vision for the economic sector. He highlighted that one of the government’s objectives is to encourage entrepreneurs to invest in agriculture and to direct their activities towards this sector.

He criticised the current model where the country imports more products than it exports, enriching other nations to the detriment of its own development.

He called for local production and processing of products, as well as the promotion of national entrepreneurship.

The Prime Minister also called on the private sector to act transparently, stressing that corruption is damaging the national economy. He encouraged entrepreneurs to invest innovatively and to contribute to the well-being of their fellow citizens and their country by using their resources responsibly.
