Burkina Faso:  Olivia Rouamba grants an audience to the outgoing UNICEF Resident Representative in Burkina Faso

The UNICEF Resident Representative in Burkina Faso, Ms. Sandra Lattouf, was received in Ouagadougou on Sunday, June 18th, by the Burkinabe Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Olivia Rouamba. The discussions between the two individuals focused on the progress made in child protection over the past three years and the challenges that remain.

As her mission in the country of the «Integrity Men» comes to an end, the UN official’s visit aims to express her gratitude to the Burkinabe Minister of Diplomacy for the support provided by the Burkinabe government throughout her three-year mandate.

«It is a fulfilled commitment thanks to the contribution of the Burkinabe authorities, technical and financial partners, and the resilience of the Burkinabe people», rejoiced Ms. Sandra Lattouf, before acknowledging the solidarity of the Burkinabe people towards children.

«During my time in Burkina Faso, I was struck by the strength, resilience, and spirit of solidarity of the Burkinabe people, especially towards children».

Ms. Olivia Rouamba, after emphasizing that UNICEF is one of Burkina’s privileged partners, expressed her satisfaction with the friendly and fruitful collaboration with Ms. Sandra Lattouf.

She also conveyed the Burkinabe government’s gratitude to the UN agency for all the projects developed for the well-being of children, particularly those who are internally displaced.

The two personalities noted the significant progress made in child protection on the ground. However, they acknowledged that there is still work to be done to ensure the right to access health care and education for all children.

Ms. Lattouf’s mission in Burkina may be ending, but UNICEF will continue to support the efforts of the Burkinabe authorities in child protection.
