Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré pays tribute to Thomas Sankara and reaffirms his commitment to a free and prosperous country

On August 4, 2024, President Ibrahim Traoré marked a significant moment in Burkina Faso’s history by paying tribute to the heroic struggle led by the Burkinabe people under Captain Thomas Sankara.

 

This symbolic date commemorates the transformation of Upper Volta into Burkina Faso in 1984, signifying the people’s unyielding resolve to free themselves from imperialism and build a sovereign, proud nation focused on endogenous development.

 

President Traoré highlighted the historic changes that took place on August 4, 1984, including the renaming of the country, the adoption of a new national anthem, and the introduction of a new flag.

 

These changes encapsulate the deep aspiration of the Burkinabe people to take control of their destiny, ensure the prosperity and happiness of the masses, and make Burkina Faso a beacon of progress.

 

In his homage to Captain Thomas Sankara, President Ibrahim Traoré reaffirmed his full commitment to the Burkinabe people.

 

He expressed his strong determination to continue Sankara’s unfinished work, aiming to rid the country of malevolent forces and their supporters.
