Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim TRAORE honours Captain SANKARA’s Memory: A Historic Day for the Land of honest Men

This Sunday, President Ibrahim TRAORE presided over a memorable ceremony to commemorate the assassination of President Thomas SANKARA and his 12 companions. This solemn event was marked by four acts of profound significance aimed at perpetuating the memory of a man who left his mark on the history of his country and the African continent.

Firstly, President TRAORE officially raised Captain Thomas SANKARA to the dignity of Hero of the Nation.

A well-deserved distinction for a man who devoted his life to the struggle for justice, equality and dignity for the people of Burkina Faso.

 Thomas SANKARA remains a source of inspiration for present and future generations.

Secondly, 15 October has been declared a day of homage to Thomas SANKARA. This date will forever be engraved in the history of Burkina Faso as a day to celebrate the legacy of this great leader.

 A day when the people of Burkina Faso will come together to remember his courage and vision.

Another poignant moment of the ceremony was the laying of the foundation stone of the mausoleum dedicated to Thomas SANKARA.

 This mausoleum will be a place of meditation and remembrance, where citizens will be able to reflect and recharge their batteries by meditating on the ideals espoused by this visionary.

Finally, President TRAORE christened the former Boulevard Charles De Gaulle, now renamed Boulevard Capitaine Isidore Noël Thomas SANKARA.

A symbolic gesture that testifies to the eternal gratitude towards a man whose name will remain engraved in the collective memory of Burkina Faso.
