Burkina Faso: New agreements signed with Iran

The first joint session of the Burkina Faso-Iran Joint Cooperation Commission has been underway in Ouagadougou since October 2nd.

This session, which will continue until October 6th, aims to review the state of cooperation between the two countries and propose the signing of new agreements to strengthen this cooperation.

Burkina Faso has presented fourteen (14) draft agreements to the Iranian side in various fields, including security and defense, agriculture, civil protection, trade promotion, environment, health, economics, technical and vocational training, mining, culture, and more.

On the Iranian side, Mr. Alireza ASGARIAN, the Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Labor of the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasized areas of cooperation such as education, training of trainers, scholarship grants, petrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals.

He mentioned that Iran could meet a significant portion of Burkina Faso’s pharmaceutical needs.

As a reminder, on April 14, 2004, an economic, commercial, cultural, scientific, and technical cooperation memorandum was signed in Tehran between the government of Burkina Faso and Iran.

Since Ibrahim Traoré came to power in October 2022, Burkina Faso has distanced itself from France and turned to other countries.

In an interview, the transitional president stated that Burkina Faso remains open to any partner concerned about the situation in the country.

Regarding development, he assured that several agreements are being signed with investors and operators to make economic activities profitable for all.
