Burkina Faso – Iran / A new era of cooperation: eight historic agreements signed for a mutually beneficial future

In a historic event that took place on Thursday 5 October 2023 in Ouagadougou, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad, Olivia ROUAMBA, and the Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Security of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sayed Solat MORTAZAVI, brought to life President Ibrahim Traoré’s vision of diversifying Burkina Faso’s partnerships for a win-win partnership. The signing ceremony marked the realisation of this bold vision.

This historic agreement came at the end of the first session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation between Ouagadougou and Teheran The two countries reaffirmed their firm commitment to revitalising their bilateral cooperation, thereby laying the foundations for a lasting partnership.

During the four-day session, experts from Burkina Faso and Iran worked tirelessly to draw up agreements that will benefit both nations.

In total, eight cooperation agreements were signed, covering a wide range of key areas:

Energy and Mining Cooperation, Town Planning and Construction, Labour and Social Protection, Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Pharmaceutical Industry, Vocational Training, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

This series of agreements testifies to the unwavering commitment of Burkina Faso and Iran to work together for a prosperous and mutually beneficial future.

President Ibrahim Traoré has led the way in seeking to diversify Burkina Faso’s partnerships, and this historic step is an example of visionary leadership and commitment to a win-win partnership.
