Burkina Faso/ Inata Case: about forty soldiers have been heard before a court

As part of the Inata case, the military prosecutor’s office announced on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, that around forty soldiers have been questioned.

Following the attack on the Inata gendarmerie detachment (Sahel) on November 14, 2021, and based on the findings of the administrative investigation, the military prosecutor’s office has initiated proceedings against individuals for different offenses.

These offenses are including endangering the lives of others, failure to provide assistance to a person in danger, and disobedience. This information was provided in a press release.

According to the prosecutor’s office, on January 1, 2022, it was an investigating judge who is in charge of this case. This judge has the responsibility of gathering information using all legal means necessary to determine the instigators and any charges that may be brought against them on the criminal level.

«To this day, more than forty members of the national gendarmerie and the operational command chain have been questioned», stated the military prosecutor’s office. He added that the judicial investigation is ongoing in order to uncover the truth.

The attack in Inata in the Sahel region resulted in the deaths of 57 people, including 53 gendarmes and 4 civilians, and several people missing on November 14, 2021.

Several civil society organizations had demanded the resignation of the then President of Burkina Faso, Roch Kaboré.
